Hello all, I am having a difficult time replacing my wheel hubs after changing the ball joints on my 245DL. All I did to the hub was repack the wheel and inner bearing with synthetic grease. I replaced the seal retainer and seal and placed the seal with the cone shape toward the engine almost to the back of the spindle. I have to push hard to get the castle nut to thread and I rotate the hub as I tighten the nut. It only takes about 5 turns and then it is tight, I back it off to where I can adjust it by hand and then hand tighten, as I spin in both directions the seal will bind up . I remove this and start over, if I tighten too much the seal gets stuck between the seal retainer and the inner bearing. I also have a problem after I replace the rotor and caliper. The rotors are new purchased at NAPA and when I tighten the caliper mounting bolts it locks the caliper to the rotor, loosen and it rotates normally. It appears that the outer most lip portion of the caliper that holds the pads is touching the rotor and the inner part is about 1/4" away from the rotor. The pads are not even touching the rotor so that is not the problem. I have included photos of the seal and seal retainer that I purchased from FCP Groton. Anyone who can help at all with this will be a friend for life, this is so frustrating after replacing the inner, outer tierods, ball joints, transmission, rear seal, front three seals and timing belt!
Thanks, Noel
