wipers quit working: second motor 200 1989

I replaced the original wiper motor about three years ago on the '89 240..they still ran sort of sluggish after the motor replacement. The replacement came from the junkyard and was older than '89. The first thing that I noticed was about a year ago the high speed quit working. Finally, this week, the wipers won't run at all.

Is there any other failure (besides a bad wiper motor) that could be the problem? I'm gonna check the fuse, etc....but I was wondering if there is a solenoid or something...that could be the problem. I've already procured another replacment wiper motor..but I don't want to install it until I know for certain the wiper motor is the problem.

By the way...when I replaced the wiper motor three years ago, I moved the linkage behind the dash to ensure no binding was occurring. I have never liked the sluggish way the wipers have worked on the car..and I had some suspicion that the wipers were "binding" to cause the motor failure. But when I replaced the motor 3 years ago, the linkage and movement seemed fine.

Thanks,
Cabbie
