1989 240 AC Retrofit Questions

Hi guys. I’ve got a 240 DL & the AC isn’t working. I can turn on the vents, but all I get is hot air. I’m in Texas, so AC is kind of a must. I was thinking about getting a retrofit for the AC, but I don’t know how to tell if one has already been done or not by the previous owner. How can you tell, without taking it to an automotive shop? What are the things that I should look for?

Should we determine that one has NOT been done, how hard is it to do the retrofit yourself? The automotive shop says it’s about US$20 for the parts. How long does it take to install the retrofit? Any advice would me most appreciated.

Thanks!
