B234 16V Timing? Cant locate TDC? need help, please. 700

Hi All.

Probably a dumb question?

How do you locate TDC on a B234 16V?
The cams are straight forward.

But i am confused with the cranshaft.
If i line the notch up with the 0 alignment on the front cover Piston #1 is not up at TDC.
Correct me if i am wrong but #1 is the closest to the front bumper.

I have also tried 2 marks underneath as stated in the FAQ.

found a mark underneath on the rear timing cover and another mark on the block timing case.

I am lost????? & starting to get frustrated.

Suspecting my car has a timing issue. Was running very rough & rich. Now it cranks but won't fire up. Excellent fuel, excellent spark.
Rich problem fixed - dodgy ground to injectors.
Changed ECT switch, FPR, filters, RPM sensor. Dizzy cap & rotor button.
Check ICV, TB, AMM, relays, etc.

Still not starting, although the cranking is worse & it has started Squeeling during start up since i have mucked around with the timing belt.

Thanks in advance.
