suspension upgrades 120-130

I've got a 68 122S that still have a bit of clunk in the front end. I figure I may need to do the ball joints in addition to the bushings.

I also have a complete front crossmember with suspension from an 1800E.
I've frequently heard that the the 1800 has a moderately upgraded/improved front suspension. Can I/should I install the 1800E front crossmember in the 68 122? Would I see any improvement? What sort of suspension upgrades are people usually talking about?
