84 idle problems 200

hey all

on this fine laborday i fine myself under the hood of a brick. wonder if anybody can give me some advise... the car in question is an 84 245 with automatic trans... The car was purring like a kitten going down the interstate, then then i noticed that it seemed my accelerator was stuck. so i cut the car off cruise up and off ramp... turned the car over and the idle was extremely high... so i checked all the vacuum hoses, nothing appeared loose or broken... Then i disconnected the AMM and the idle went down... it went down far enough to where i was able to nurse it back home...

So i got home and i checked the throttle position switch & it seemed to be OK, but i pulled it off anyway and replaced it with a spare... i checked the air duct & i flexed it but don't see any cracks... I tried to pinch off the Idle pump the car did not stall... Nothing changed in this process, it was still roaring

so am i correct in thinking i am getting just to much air? could the AMM be shot? If i am getting to much air has anybody ever seen a worn out throttle body cause this? like sucking air thru the bushings?

If the AMM is shot could i replace it with a 92 244 AMM that i have laying around... same goes with the throttle body as they both look like the same part... but the 84 throttle body has the adjust screw & the 92 doesn't..

Recently i did rewire the old harness, but that was a month ago & never had a problem since. It has had a normal tuneup, like i said it was running perfect till this...

Thanks for any and all advise
