I had a leak in the (high pressure) return hose to the tank. Leak was located near the fuel pump area.
I did not want to open the line as I really don't know how those fittings are designed etc. And I really try to avoid working with fuel lines. I came up with a good fix that held perfectly, though it was only needed for a day or two as the car went to my mechanic for a full repair - he replaced the line.
I basically wrapped the line with a layer of fuel hose right where the pinhole leak was. I bought fuel hose with inner diameter just slightly smaller than the fuel line's outer diameter. Prepared a piece about 2-3 inches long, split the long way. Got three hose clamps, correct diameter for the rubber fuel line. Got the widest strapped hose clamps out of those I saw available.
I slipped the split line over the hose, centered over the leak. Split in hose goes on the back side, away from the leak. I carefully put the first hose clamp directly over the leak point, making sure the worm gear part of clamp was not over the leak. Tighten clamp but not enough to buckle the inner fuel line. Add the other two clamps right next to the center clamp.
It held perfectly. The return line was/is a high pressure line; before the repair it put out a spray, not a drip. I think the repair was better than I expected and probably would have lasted a week or two even driving 800 mi/week at the time.
