Hiya!
The 83 245T has showed me a great deal of promise in the past week. Thank you all so much for all of the wonderful info on this site. So far I've changed the plugs/cap/rotor, fluids, filters (that oil filter is in a fun spot... I had to jack up my lowered car to get at it!), cleaned quite a few grounds and the fusebox contacts/connections, and taped up a few cracked wires... Somewhere in all of these changes we eliminated the real hard cold start (it would take 5 or 10 minutes in the morning)
my dad tightened up the exhaust manifold (there are a couple bolts that seem to be missing their heads as well... ...) and we took it for a drive and it drove so much different! We could really feel the turbo. So right now, it's driving like a drastically different car. I mean, in a good way.
But I came across another problem tonight when I was aligning my headlights. When I was sitting in my car, with the headlights on, I noticed this... almost cyclical flickering of the idiot lights. I think all of them came on. It is very *light* flicker. They don't come on completely, but at the same time they flicker, the idle seems to drop a little for a second and the voltage gauge drops a hair... all of this at the same time. It happens at idle, I would say, every 5-8 seconds. And. When I turn the brights on and the blower and other things, I notice a pretty strong drop in the idle of the engine and it immediately shoots back to normal when I turn these things off. I also noticed the flickering while i was driving on the highway tonight. Any words of wisdom? The wiring harness has definitely been changed sometime in the vehicle's history, but I will most definitely be checking the wires to the alt. tomorrow.. and after I jack the car up, of course.
And pictures! I will post some pics soon of the vehicle in its entirety.
Thanks!
