no heat=messed-up vents? 900

Hi. I took my car to the dealer because I was loosing coolant. They said that the heater control valve was broken, and since heat is never used in Cali, Colombia, they bypassed it with a hose. Now, when I turn on the AC, the center vents suddenly stop blowing air, and the cold air is blown through the feet vents, as if the selector had been set to this position. After driving for some seconds, the floor vents shut off and air is again blown through the center vents. Seconds later, it starts its "cycle" again, and then again and again... Is this related to the heater valve bypass? This wasn´t happening before taking my car to Volvo... Car is a 1993 944 turbo.
