question on automatic trans. 200 1990

hello bricksters, i am trying to find out why the auto trans. shifts with a clunk and a bang when put in drive ,it does not happen going into reverse or park. the trans . was rebuilt and the shop said the problem was that the idle speed was too high. and that was true and caused by the gasket on the intake manifold that was old cracked and brittle, once it was changed the idle dropprd down to 900 rpm and sounded normal but the trans still is not right ,any ideas?? thanks for any input Mush from mushroom land
