Siphoning gas, '88 740 700

How do I go about draining gas from my 88 740T? I have a quarter tank of 5 year old gas in it, and have tried to insert a hose in the filler tube to siphon it, with no success. I don't seem to be able to insert it far enough, as I keep hitting an obstruction. The car runs on this old gas, but I would like to get rid of it without putting it through the engine.
