If there's nothing fancy in it (leather, power windows, etc), it's likely just a DL. Doesn't really matter. Though, if you're losing sleep over it, you could take the VIN to a dealership and have them run it. :-)

As for the badges being missing, there are three options: they fell off, they were stolen, or a previous owner didn't like them and yanked them off. They supposedly come off pretty easy, they do fall off, some owners like pulling badges off their cars for what I think is a bit of a "ricer/tuner" look... and it's unusual, but kinda/sorta possible they could have been stolen.
