mig welding safety 200

Ok. So I'm going to do some rust repairs on the body of my `89 245. I will need to do some welding. I have a nice little lincoln mig welder and I'm a somewhat experienced welder, but not on cars; this is a first for me. What are the big safety issues? I will take my battery right out, and make sure my ground clamp is right near the work area, but I worry about the fuel system.. Anyone out there done some welding on cars? I will be working on the bottom outer corners of the doors, the fenders near the doors, the area at the bottom of the doors on the body (what's that called?), and the edge of the tailgate. My guess is these are some of the more common rust spots on 240's.

Thanks!

Yaleh.
