Fuel air adjuster 1990 740 gl 1990

Hello,
This is my first time posting - I know very little about cars - mechanically -
My friend who is a good mechanic but has moved away from me tells me that I should look for a white
screw near the top of the engine - turn it - to adjust the fuel / air
My 1990 volvo 740 gl starts great, very strong engine, but when I'm at a stop it stutters and all the lights on the dash flicker on - sometimes it will keep running sometimes it stalls -
I haven't had a problem starting it - ever -

I think it needs a very minor adjustment - something I could do myself if i knew where to start, what to turn, what to tighten etc -

can anyone help ?

thanks
