evaporator surgery going poorly/Vent box stuck 700

I've ripped apart the car and exposed the vent box. I 've removed the 12 screws that hold the evaporator box closed and I've broken the seal that was made very effectively with windshield snot. But the box cover is stuck in the fire wall where the evaporator drain passes out through the firewall. Tomorrow I may drive a long distance to a Volvo dealership and purchase that evaporator drain seal and then maul the old one to get it to let go of the box. Another idea is to inject baby oil into it and hope that it lets the drain tube slip out . I will not cut the box because there are perhaps no adhesives that stick to this type of plastic. Anyone ever pull one of these out without breakage ? How did you do it?
