Weber to SU Conversion Report and Related Questions 120-130 1967

All,

Several weeks ago I picked up a set of used HS6 carbs and intake manifold to replace my weber. I'd played with it in the garage, making sure I understood how everything worked and how it all fit together, but this weekend, I finally got around to bolting it all on.

I was absolutely amazed at how simple the SU's are. She fired up after about 30 secs of cranking with no adjustment. Taking the front float bowl lid off and adjusting the float fixed the fuel pouring out onto the exhaust manifold. An hour later, she was purring along. Again, amazing how simple and easy.

I did run into some issues that I'd appreciate your advice on dealing with...

First, can anyone tell me the size of the vertical throttle linkage component that runs parallel to the firewall? It connects the lever that's activated by the gas pedal with the rotating throttle linkage that runs perpendicular to the firewall along the top of the intake? Mine is 5 3/4" long and 3/16" in diameter. When I connect it up, it pulls the gas pedal about 1/2 way down so that I can never achieve full throttle with the accelerator pedal. My guess is that it should be about an inch longer, but I would really appreciate it if someone's got more than a guess. Does anyone know of a place that supplies throttle linkage misc. parts that might have something like this?

Second, there's about a 1/4" difference between the thickness of the exhaust (dual outlet, cast iron) manifold and the aluminum intake manifold, with the intake manifold being thinner. Has anyone had to deal with this before? My thought was to cut a couple of the thick washers that hold everything together in half and put them on the intake side to even things up, but again, I'm happy to listen to the voice of experience.

Finally, as part of this project, I realized that I'm missing several of the studs from the head that hold on one or the other of the manifolds. The lower left and lower right studs that hold the exhaust manifold on and the upper right stud that hold both manifolds are missing. I rigged a replacement for the upper right stud for now, but would like to replace all of them. Does anyone know the specs? Seems like 5/16 course thread on both sides, but how long should they be?

Thanks again for your advice!
