1996 / 960 TIMING BELT MANY QUESTIONS 900

Since the 1992/960, the timing belt has been changed. Besides the belt being wider In the 1996/960, the camshaft sprocket's teeth are bigger and deeper than the ones in the 1992 model. But I have noticed that the crankshaft pulley's teeth in the 1996 model are not as deep as the camshaft sprocket's teeth. I have also noticed a certain play in the belt when I turn the crankshaft counterclockwise a bit. This makes the belt slack on the right side. When the engine is turned off normally, this slack is present every time. It tenses when I turn the crankshaft clockwise. Evidently the play is caused by the belt not being able to hug the pulley completely since the teeth are not deep enough. Is it possible that the belt may jump a tooth due to this play? Are the two long flange screws on the bottom right side plate that are very close to the belt there to prevent jumping teeth?. Is there a better crankshaft sprocket out there?. Is this an engineering booboo?. By the way no play in the 1992 model because teeth match crank and cam. Thanks
