weird idiot light behavior 900 1992

I've got some weird behavior from my 92 940 idiot lights:

When the car is cold at startup, only the seatbelt light will illuminate normally and go out with the chime, nothing else lights EXCEPT the parking brake light AND the overdrive arrow will illuminate simultaneously, until either the p-brake or downshift button on the gear selector are touched, then both go off.

The when you subsequently push the downshift button, the transmission will respond normally, except the light won't illuminate to tell you if OD is locked out or not. But when the car is next re-stared when warm, everything illuminates just fine at startup and then goes dark normally, and the OD button and orange arrow work just fine.

Trying to figure out if it might be a ground fault at the p-brake, or maybe the OD solenoid? Or possibly behind the cluster? Has anyone else had problems like this seemingly linked to car being cold?

Many thanks for any suggestions.
