Heating/cooling questions 200

Hello guys. I have a 89 240DL. I have only had the car for a few months and lately the temp gauge is acting crazier than normal. Some day no temp reading other days 9:00 and perfect and some days it inches its way up to red but never goes red. I see IPD sells a compensator board. Would that help? Could the temp sensor be bad? While I'm at it I'm going to flush the coolant before winter comes. 93F thermostat? I figured while I'm doing all that I might as well set up an idiot light for coolant loss. I see the article in FAQ. Seems like all you need is a special switch to put in the reserve tank a bulb for the dash and some wires to hook it all up. Any tips or advise? While I'm on the cooling rampage anything else I should look into? Thanks for all the help.
