in dash electrocal burn - smoke 200 1989

Hi All,

It's been a few days now, I have an intermittent burn in the dash. It's an electroic burn smell, strong, and if it persists more than 10 seconds or so (becasue it is very intermittent) I eventuially have smoke coming out frmo the left side, where the light dimmer is.

I have removed the center consol and drive without it, it reproduced itself once, but I was unable to see exactly where it was coming from. I move the wires around, everything is solid, no obviious bad connections or anything like that.

Any cronic problems there? Can it be the dimmer (I have not unbolted it yet) ?
Could it be a relay from below smoking upwards? any other thoughts?

Thanks,
