88 740 Cam seal replacement: error- timing is off 700

Oil was shooting out of the cam front seal on my recently purchased used 740 wagon. I was inspired to attempt to replace it only because of the information shared by the members of this board. Very good contributions. I was glad to start the car and see that the leak was gone.

I took it out on the road for a short test, and I wasn't glad anymore. I must have botched the timing of the cam; power quite low, and the engine after shutdown seemed hot with "pinging" sheet metal cooling down. I guess the cam is a bit off.

Is there a way I can fix this in the carport? I really hope so, because I feel pretty worried about it, and a tow and Timing belt will cost me $400 and a wait until next week.

Thanks.
