Lower steering U-joint removal 200

Hello all,

I am trying to replace my severely leaking steering rack on my 91 245 with a rebuilt rack. So far everything has gone smoothly except for removing the lower steering u-joint from both/either the rack and/or the steering column. I have completely removed both bolts, tried wedging the pinch joints open, whacking them, etc. I have now soaked it with PB Blaster and will let it sit overnight.

Should I try removing the upper u-joint and pulling the whole column out and removing the lower once it is out? Would the whole column even come out attached to the rack?

Should I try heating them up with a torch? I am a little hesitant to do that now that I have soaked it in the PB Blaster.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dan Coady
