The SU's always seemed to need a half second or so to respond to a sudden throttle opening, the Weber's just go VROOM.
I was always experiencing that with my 142 as well, until I put some thicker(30wt) oil in the dashpots, coming from ATF. That might've been a bit of overkill, but I wasn't getting that initial waiting(lean bog) period anymore.
And the line of resoning that would lead you to think that each cylinder hooked to a single SU gets that 240 CFM during it's turn would also lead you to figure that a single 240 CFM carb would do just as well a job feeding all 4 cylinders
Oh yes! That's what I was missing... DOH! John, some HIF6s would've done you better(than the HS6s, I mean), and some extreme spacing out of the carbs(maybe not possible with the PV's bay) could only help the proper feeding of the cylinders. Each cylinder might not get the full 240cfm per carb, but they aren't only going to be getting 120cfm either. But that doesn't mean I agree they'd outperform some 40 DCOEs, but I don't know... :)
It's all starting to make sense again. Now, if only the proper cylinders were paired, and had longer runners for the SUs... And then you tossed on some modern Mikunis... >:) Hehehe
