I've got a real slow coolant leak on my 1998 S90. My kids drive it 20 miles a day and I guess that I loose around several tablespoons a day.
So far I've:
1.) Checked transmission fluid: Same level and nice and pink.
2.) Checked oil from dip stick and oil fill cap: no white deposits. Only problem is that a little bit of exhaust fumes is coming out of the dip stick hole. I don't remember that in the past.
3.) Checked tail pipe exhaust: Smells normal, no white smoke.
4.) Checked for any coolant leaks: saw none.
5.) Took off green overflow cap when engine was on: It seemed pressurized.
6.) After my one daughter came home from school, waited about 15 minutes and took of the green cap again and was still pressurized.
--So as a question #1: How long should the pressure on the coolant system last? I've read that the number one culprit in these cases is a problematic coolant overflow cap. Do you all agree?
--Question #2:I read with interest the thread about all the suggestions to replace a 10 year old coolant system on a Volvo. Maybe its a good time for me to do it?
Thanks for your help.
Best Regards,
Stan
