My 1991 240 recently died a tragic highway death. I'd had the car for 10 years and was crushed to see it pass away. Fingers crossed, i seem to have found another 1991 240 to replace it with. I've just finished a complete swap of the interiors of the two cars (my old interior was in better shape and i preferred it's black interior to the new one's tan insides).
Anyway, the swap is pretty much complete. The last part to take care of is a transfer of my aftermarket stereo and speakers (rear deck and front door). I originally bought the aftermarket CD head unit through Crutchfield, so i have all the wiring and harnesses i should need. There was already an aftermarket stereo on the new car, but it no longer had a face, so it's not usable (i removed it and it's harness). The speakers will be easy enough to wire. However before actually getting to the speaker part, i can't seem to get power to the head unit. The speakers will be wired directly into the receiver harness, so the only wires i need to splice on from the 240's wiring are the two power wires (red & yellow)and ground wire (black) from the crutchfield adapter. And this should be the exact same setup as what i had on the old car (i've bypassed the amp already, all that good stuff). But i can't get the unit to power on. I took the unit and hooked it back up to what's left of my old 240 in the driveway and using the same wires and harness that i'm attempting to use in the new one, the old car powers the stereo right up.
Though not a pro, i normally find this stuff easy enough with common sense. What am i missing here? Fuses are all fine. I assume my next step is to get a DMM and test voltage on the wires in the new car. Is there anything else anyone can suggest for me to check that i've completely missed? Thanks ahead of time for any input.
