Sunroof switch removal 900

Hello All:
Now that it's getting cooler, I thought I'd tackle my sunroof problem on my 97 960 Wagon. It won't open. No whine, no clicks, nada. I was told to check the switch in the dash first to see if it was still any good before moving on to the more expensive motor problem located beneath the overhead panel. I have removed the cowling below the sterring wheel and the metal knee plate, have stuck my head up in there and seen the switch. I put my hands on it but don't know how to remove it. Resisting the tempation to yank on it, i thought i'd write in and ask if there was a right way to get it out. Also, after i get it out, how do i test it?
Thanks much.
Karl
