Pressure build-up in gas tank, smell in car 200 1985

Hey guys/gals,

I have noticed that there is a tremendous build-up of pressure in the gas tank, almost to the point of not being able to remove the gas cap. Also, I have noticed that once in a while there is a smell of gas in the cabin, pretty strong at times.

I have read through some of the posts, but none have proved helpful...I have made sure the rubber seal around the filler tube is in the proper place and no gaps present, I have inspected the overflow tube to ensure that it exits thru the drain plug in trunk. I have checked the actual tank as well as the trunk access for any leaks or cracked hoses..these all looked ok.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as I do not want to ruin anything if this pressure is causing any big problems!

Thanks
