Failing NoX Emissions - Any Quick Remedy Come To Mind? 900 1992

Well, it's state inspection time and I failed the emissions again, last year I was okay, prior years have seen NoX really high, and a cooling system problem seemingly did the trick. It is not that far out, on a 800-900 acceptable maximum, I am at about 1200.

Does anyone out there have any experience with this? Anything I could do to remedy the situation prior to getting it resmogged? I plan on cleaning the air filter, maybe an oil change is in order, but I am still 1000 miles away from the usual 3000 mile interval that I respect, though I can say that the oil is somewhat dark. Maybe an octane booster. What do you guys think?
