It gives some information on why I feel safe at 50 psi. Why it helps fuel economy is another matter. Higher pressure helps f.e. because the rubber flexes less, giving a more efficient transfer of energy.

I wouldn't try it on aged tires of unknown history - however I bought my current tires new just a few months ago.
