failing wiring harness? possible upgrades. 200

I have a feeling my wiring harness in my 84 245 is starting to biodegrade itsself.

I got in the car this morning and started it up to drive down to school and my tach read 0, but the engine was on, and oil pressure was fine. The gas gauge also read empty (which it wasnt) and the battery dummy light was on but my volt gauge was right about straight up (lower than normal).

So I shut the engine off and started it again. All was normal. Before I get on the freeway at the stoplight the battery light comes on again, and my tach is about 500 rpm off, a few minutes later all normal again and the tach jumps up about 500 rpm (with no increase in actual rpms) and stays that way.

This is the first time Ive noticed this, but I think its due to the fact that it was pretty dewy this morning and connections may have been dewy. I also do have a wire coming bare (oil pressure I think? or one on the alt) near the alternator, so I know at least some of the insulation is starting to fail.

I've been looking into replacing the LH 2.0 system on it with an LH 2.2 system and EZK ignition from a non biodegradable 88 or 89 from the junkyard. (Thinking about going +T in the not so distant future) Should I make this project a priority, so the harness doesnt fail completely and I cant drive my brick, or does this sound like something else?

As always, thanks in advance for any info you can give me about this problem, and advantages/disadvantages to swapping in LH 2.2 and EZK
