For those of you who have the chrome or black dealer installed roof racks on ther wagons you probably know all to well how difficult they can be in the winter. They may as well call them ice racks, because that's exactly what they become. It's like haveing a giant ice cube tray on your roof for four months. Well if your like me and you like the way your annoying rack looks but the thought of spending another winter launching ballistic ice missles off your roof whenever you get onto the highway makes you cringe then try this; take off half of your rack. First, pull your whole rack off and wax your roof (trust me it needs it). Next replace any of the compression plugs that are bad. Now remove the load bars and the luggage grid (it's not like you ever use them anyway) from the side rails. Replace the side rails back on the car and your done. The side rails are the only part of the rack you need to keep the holes pluged, and they are the best looking part of the rack anyway. You'll be suprised how good it looks. If you actualy use your rack and can't live without the load bars then keep them on and just get rid of the luggage grid.
