Sparks from the engine! 700 1989

Greetings everyone!
It's been a few years since I've posted or read thru. My brick has behaved so well ... up until now.

The new development is a clacking noise around the 2nd cylinder. My wife stopped using the car after I heard the noise. Initially, it sounded like the oil was low - but worse. I didn't have time until this weekend to REALLY look at it. It was dusky out and after turning it over, I saw sparks in the exhaust manifold side of the engine! Not consistantly but definitely there. I checked the plugs and wires for damage or looseness. Nothing really out of the ordinary.

Fired it up again...the sparks don't appear to be electrical in nature. Almost like they are being jettisoned outward not arcing.

Could I have a busted valve?? The engine runs OK, not missing. If it weren't for the clacking sound, it would be normal.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions!
