Amm, air box, etc. 200 1983

Hello all,

My mechanic said that a slightly rough idle was caused by the AMM starting to fail. So I look over BB archives, and several posters said to block lower air box intake and keep the air box flapper open with a prop. Will this impact and/or contribute to the failure of other parts?

If I run the car in this configuration how will this effect the AMM-will it continue to go bad or will its life be extended? Or just replace the AMM.

TIA

Todd
