Wipers turn on when headlights turn on - can't figure it out 700 1996

My wife's 1986 740 Turbo wagon has an odd electrical problem that just started today.

When the headlights are turned on, the front and rear wipers all run continuously. This does not happen if the headlight switch is turned to running lights or off. The wiper switch on the steering column works normally.

I notice also that the right headlight looks quite dim.

Any else ever have this problem?

If it helps, the color of the car is white! :-)
