Car stalled, found loose wire, is it suppoed to be clamped on somehow? 200 1993

1993 245 NA manual wagon.

Made a left hand turn onto a road, and the car died!

Got stuck in the left hand lane of traffic on a 4 lane highway just after a stoplight. Friendly person offered to push my car with his to get it on the shoulder.

Once on the shoulder, popped hood.

Please excuse my terrible terminology in the following description.

The four bougie wires that go distributor cap to plugs were all ok, but the 5th wire that runs from the center of the distributor cap to something on the drivers side and is supposed to plug into um, a bosch thingie, was disconnected from the bosch thingie.

I plugged it back on, and car ran fine.

Now I'm wondering why it came off in the first place, is there supposed to be something that helps it stay on, or is it jsut sort of plugged in?

I'll try to take pics and post, but I hope the information is sufficient to elicit some sort of reply.

Thanks!
