245 auto OD not working, working, not working....help! 200 1989

Just drove an 89 245 wagon, auto tranny, back from Florida 1200 miles, no OD working at all. Just bought the OD bypass plate and o-ring from IPD and got ready to put it on today. After a trip down the highway, I noticed how smooth the tranny was running and realized the OD had started working. Press the button, 3rd gear power, press again, 4th gear cruising. Sweet! Worked all day today and after repairing a few other issues (tailgate wiring harnesses- what a pain, and fixing brake light issues- wiring, no 21/5 plug for brakelight, wrong wirings), I got in the car this evening and took a drive.

Now the OD decided not to work. It was working after I made all the aforementioned repairs. Help! What should I look at? I'd like to keep the OD set up as normal instead of the bypass plate option. I hear a small click while driving the car every time I press the OD button but nothing happens???

(I might add that today I found brake fluid leaking like mad from the MC. I don't know if it's in line with the OD solenoid or not...ie- electrical short?)
