ok, so here we go... i've been battling with my '93 240 wagon for over six months now. she's still driveable, but i have to let her warm up for about 5 minutes in the morning before driving.
here are the symptoms:
- rough idle in park/at stop (definitely moves the car a bit), smooths when driving.
- severe lack of power/stalling when driven cold.
- when warm (temp gauge at middle position) drives much better (i'd say normal, but i don't even remember what normal is anymore, unfortunately) and on the highway she drives great. very responsive.
- even when warm power she lacks when a/c is on.
here's what i've done:
- ECU replaced (this was done by an indy volvo guy who i will not be using anymore, it's a bit of a sore subject-if you live in st. louis and are curious i'll give you his name)
- ICU replaced (with a used unit-seemed to help a bit)
- throttle body cleaned
- new plugs and wires
- new rotor and cap
- new air filter
- new fuel filter
- oil change
- new timing belt, tensioner, seals, etc (this was routine maintenance before the problem started)
- new O2 sensor (also routine maintenance before the problem started)
- new fuel pump relay
- IAC cleaned
- AMM cleaned (runs much worse when disconnected)
- FPR replaced (with new part)
- vacuum hose from AMM to manifold replaced (there was fairly large hole in the hose that the indy volvo guy mentioned above missed)
- used a can of bg44k to clean fuel injectors (made a noticeable difference, especially on the highway)
- tested fuel injector o-rings with water drop test - o-rings fine
i think that's all of it.
so, now i'm at a loss/not sure where to go next because to top it all off, i'm not getting any error codes. the next thing i was going to check/replace is the knock sensor or coolant temperature sensor, but i thought both of those would give an error code. i know this is getting pretty lengthy, but i'm just not ready to give up on this car because, other than this problem, she's in great shape and i love her. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
