As I continue to learn more about my new 122s I have more questions!

This one is about cold starting.

The car seems to start fine cold when it's above 40 degrees or so. Pull out the choke, give it some gas and away I go.

However, it's getting very cold where I live (Centralia, WA), and when I went to start the car last night after work it was 29 degrees outside. It wasn't quite so easy.

The car cranked slowly... making me think the battery could be dying. The car is new to me so I'll certainly check that.

But once the car got going it didn't want to stay running unless I held my foot down on the gas. After about a minute the car seemed to idle like normal.

Does this sound normal? Are there any tricks to running the car in cold temps?

This is my first carburetted car (it has SUs), and I'm still learning about it.
