voilent shake 200 1982

My '82 245 develops a violent shake when at speed and accelerating. Coasting ok neutral with clutch out REALLY BAD.

The universal joints are a bit worn which I will replace soon, BUT am I just fighting a loosing battle? If I replace the universals am I missing the fact that the rear end torques just a hair with no load (rear end jacked up, girlfriend driving, me watching the rear end) which is torquing even more under load which causes the universals to wear or is it the fact the the car has 260k miles and my guess would be no one ever added grease the the universals? (yea these have zerk fittings which also make me think that they were replaced before)

So do I dare put in my replacement drive shaft with out dropping the rear and replacing all of the bushings? (UGH!)

Thanks all!!!

Andrew
