A newcomer's question about my 122S 120-130 1964

Hello everyone - My girlfriend and I are the proud owners of a '64 Amazon, which generally behaves and functions admirably. Recently the car has begun to show some signs of trouble and I wondered if anyone here could offer an opinion as to the source of its problem.
The car will not turn over sometimes, and it seems to only happen after a decent rainfall. Usually this problem only lasts a day or two, but suddenly it has refused to budge for the past week. The battery is fine - it just seems like there's no gas getting through or something.
I'm sure that this is obvious, but I know next to nothing about cars in general, and very little about Volvos in specific. I'm going to have it towed to a mechanic this weekend, but thought that I would ask for some advice on the chance that someone else has had this same problem and thinks that it is something easily diagnosable and/or fixable.
Any thoughts are much appreciated,
Ammon
