water pump bypass tube seal trouble 200

Greetings All,
In my 1988DL the little rubber grommet for the coolant bypass tube that seals into the water pump has worked its way half out of the recess. I think it odd it has made this maneuver. I recently installed the water pump and remember deciding not to use silcone sealer on the 'o' ring, so the memory is pretty clear on the placement of the parts. I did snug the pipe flang to water pump bolt down firmly. I have driven the car maybe 100 miles since the work I did to get on the road, and the leaking just started. I can't remember getting the mirror out to inspect my work after installation but it is visible with one now and it is diffently on the wrong side. The temp guage is in the middle and at idle with the hood up I don't feel excessive heat from the radiator hoses. I'm concerned that this is indicating excessive pressure. Have you any suggestions? Thanks, Keith P
