OBD Question 700 1989

My 89 760 turbo has a rectangular box mounted on the fuel rail and has nothing in the strut tower like other cars. It has a cap on it, underneath the cap it looks like something can plug into it. There is no led or any wire to use as a jumper. Does anyone know what this is? Can you somehow use to to check fault codes.
