M4/M3/H6 to M40 conversion 444-544 1958

Hi all, I am trying to find out any information on using an M40 4spd. behind A B16 engine/bellhousing. Has anyone done this? The M4 4spd seems to be very hard to find and I think the M40 has better ratios and are more available.
It looks as though the M40 will mount up to the B16 BH if it is redrilled with the top two holes moved "down" (towards the shaft) .5" and the bottom two holes moved "up" (towards the shaft) .5". There seems to be ample room on the M40 casting to do this, especially using Allen head type screws. The input shaft looks like it will need to be shortened a bit also. I am measuring the B16 BH hole pattern to be 4 1/8" X 5 1/2" - and the M40 pattern to be 5 1/8" X 5 1/2", both with the input shaft centered in the rectangles described. The threads appear to be 12mm X 1.75 pitch into the B16 BH.
Any insights into this conversion appreciated!

TIA & Cheers!
