Wonder if some of the veneer products from Home Depot and some REALLY GOOD glue would work? Probably have to soak in water to get it to take shape. Stain and seal it or let it age naturally. Leather is another option. And it can be any color you can imagine (even metallic finishes). Soak it, form around trim piece, wrap it tight, let it dry, and it will hold that shape forever unless soaked again. Don't forget the glue.
