winshield wiper switch 200

Today I bought an excellent condition 1987 240DL.Everything checked out on the car but i was driving home in the rain and noticed that when the rain quit that the wiper still was working on intermittent even though turned off.The car is a garaged all its life condition and dry inside. But the Seattle area may be the reason why intermittent wipers were designed for(kidding sort of.)making me think the switch was used incessantly and may be has worn contacts.
Is it more likely that it is the switch inside the stalk being worn than the intermittent relay being kaput?
The wipers work great but wont turn off.
Any input would be much appreciated.
P.S.I see that the FCP Groton has both items would prefer to bye the offending component rather than lock stock and barrel.

Thanks so much.
Chris
