Valve adjustment 200

Have a '90 245 with M47 with 170K. In last year has had new timing belt, new fluids throughout, fuel filter, intank pump, tune-up etc. Runs like a dream, gets about 17 mpg (city with traffic) and 28 mpg (straight highway at 65mph). There seems to be plenty of valvetrain noise that doesn't bother me but adds to charm.

Question is: is there any reason to do valve clearance/lash adjustment (IPD has shims/tools readily available)? I'm tempted to do it just for fun and learning, but is there any other good reason?

Thanks.
