Like Deja Vu All Over Again... (Ignition) 120-130

not so common in a 122 as it would be in a early 1800... but...

without being there, I'm going to have to assume you have the ignition properly sorted... though change them 'fuel wet' plugs first.

I'm thinking water in the gas. You mentioned rain, and I think you mentioned this is a sedan. If that fuel cap doesn't seal tightly, I suppose rain could get in there....Condensation could do it to. Is this the same car as 'backfire bonanza'? Water could cause both issues, it don't take much water, and heet ain't gonna get rid of it. Perhaps a half teaspoon in each float bowl will shut you down, as it will be on the bottom of said bowls. Water sinks in gas.

First, dump a tiny bit of gas straight down the carbs and give it a quick shot..fire extinguisher in hand. (be sure you got them new plugs in there). If it starts or tries to start, you'll have zero'd in on a fuel issue.

The following is if it *does* try to start when you do that...

Remove float covers. Remove *all* the gas in each one. Paper towels will quickly soak that out of there. Get them totally dry, then refill with fresh gas from a gas can. Replace float covers. (before you soak that up and dry them, look in there... it's hard to see, but you might be able to see the water in there..)

Pull the fuel line off the carbs, and stick the end of it in a clear container (a quart sized mason type jar is good), such that the fuel pump will fill the container. An assistant would be good, or just make sure that container is in a secure place where it can't spill, and the fuel line feeding it can't fall out.

Dump another tiny bit of fuel in the carb throuts (extinguisher still handy), and start it up. Let it run until there's about a pint of fuel in your jar...

Look at the gas in the jar and see if there is even a tiny bit of separated stuff in the bottom of the jar. If even the tiniest amount of water in there, and you've found the problem.

If that does turn out to be the issue.. you might get away with doing this procedure over and over and burning through it. Best though would be to drain the tank, clear all the lines and fuel pump, and start anew with fresh gas back to front.
