TO GREASE OR NOT TO GREASE, THAT IS THE QUESTION 444-544

Hello,

I just want to make sure that anyone who cares; ALL Volvo PV, 122/Amazon and 1800 with drum brake rear ends REQUIRE repacking the axle bearings periodically as a maintance procedure.

There is an INNER AXLE seal for each axle, that when in good condition, keeps the differential oil AWAY from the axle bearing.

So the only lubrication the axle bearing is supposed to get is the grease from before it is installed.

I believe Volvo recommended a service interval was every 25,000 miles, but that is impractial. I suggest to my customers to have the bearings repacked during every major rear brake job, which is usually every 50,000.
