Breather box r/r question

Hi All
I am replacing my clogged breather box on my latest Volvo(1992 940 178k mile)acquisition. I have removed IAC and EGR(THank GOD for PB Blaster!!!) and am now staring at the Breather box..2 questions. 1, Best method of cleaning oil and grime from around box prior to removing box. 2, I am concerned with dislodging/accidentally removing crankcase breather tube while in the process of separating box from block. Can someone clarify at what point and how, you separate the tube from the box during the act of separation? Or alternatively, I kinda can visualize from the diagrams how the tube would be held to the block...but how is tube attached to the breather box? FAQ instructions otherwise excellent, as per usual, but having a hard conceptualizing what seems an important point.
Thanks
Matt
