Hi all,
I might have a deal out of a 1987 780 - metallic brown exterior color - for 1000-1500$.
Now, I already have a gorgeous metallic pearl blue 1989 PRV-6 780 which is a 4 or 4½ stars on 5, and which is garaged during wintertime. I would possibly like to use the 1987 780 as a winter car next year (I currently have a wonderful 1991 745T as a winter car, but what can I say, I just love driving the Bertone!).
The car isnt in a perfect conditions (Id rate her 3 on 5) but enough to be bought and cared for. I have not checked the engine yet, compression and so on.
Lets just admit for now it runs well. The car has 297 000 km. My questions are mostly "winter oriented".
First, I have never read any posts about the winter driving performances. Is it as good as any other Volvo (rust, handling, etc.)?
1987 had, in my opinion, one important quirk: the climate control system (the single lever system found on 760s til 1988). My mom had one of those on her 1985 and I always thought it was hell. Was I right? One of the most important things during winter is making sure that thing will perform! If it is crapy, is it difficult to put the 1988+ system in (provided I find one in a scrap yard)?
Electric harness: I have also read about those, how the biodegradable harnesses made some electric gremlins around the pre-1988 cars. Are the 780s also affected by this?
Is the PRV-6 reliable in cold weather? Living in Canada, I want to be sure the engine will not be frost-bit :P
Thats about it for now. Advices and comments welcomed.
